The public is invited to attend the Harker Heights Battle of the Court: Granny Basketball Benefit Game. The fun and exciting game is between the Harker Heights Granny Basketball Team Texas Old Glories and the Harker Heights City Staff Team. The Texas Old Glories team is hosting the benefit game as part of their charitable giving for this year’s season. Admission to the game is to bring a non-perishable food item. All food donations will benefit the KISD H.A.R.P. (Homeless Awareness Response Program) food drive. The Granny Basketball team is part of the Harker Heights Senior Program with Parks & Recreation and they practice and have games at the Recreation Center. They participate in a National Granny Basketball League and follow the rules adapted from the 1920s. The Granny Basketball League was created to provide a fun and competitive exercise for women over the age of 50, an avenue for charitable giving, a wholesome, nostalgic, and sometimes humorous entertainment, recognition for mature women, and a method of preserving the history of six-on-six basketball.
