The Harker Heights Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce the launch of an Ability Tennis Fun Day, made possible through the USTA Texas Grow the Game (GTG) Grant. This grant aims to enhance new and existing tennis programs across Texas, and the Harker Heights Parks & Recreation Department is proud to offer this new opportunity to participants with special needs. This event is open to participants with special needs, ages 5 and up. Space is limited to the first 30 registrants, and participants must register in advance.
Volunteers and representatives from USTA Texas will be on hand to teach and demonstrate tennis skills, helping participants discover the joy of the sport. The event is part of the Harker Heights Ability Sports program, which offers recreational opportunities for youth and young adults with intellectual disabilities.
Established in 2010, the Harker Heights Ability Sports program has grown to provide inclusive activities for children aged 5 to 22, with disabilities ranging from autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and Down Syndrome to cerebral palsy. The program is designed to foster participation, advocacy, and coaching, creating a welcoming environment for all abilities.
