Responsibilities
The Planning & Development Department is responsible for evaluating proposed land developments, preparing the Comprehensive Plan, geographic information systems management, implementing and administering zoning standards and subdivision regulations, inspecting construction activities, and enforcing building and development codes. In addition, the department is also responsible for registering new businesses, processing alcohol and food dealer permits, code enforcement and several other similar functions. BYOB Business Regulations
On April 14, 2020, the Harker Heights City Council adopted Ordinance 2020-10 which regulates all existing and future BYOB businesses in the city. This ordinance is designed to help ensure the safety and security of BYOB business patrons and staff, as well as provide clarity in the Harker Heights Code of Ordinances in regulating BYOB businesses. As of the adoption of this ordinance, all BYOB businesses in the city are required to have a BYOB Permit to operate. Failure to obtain a BYOB Permit or committing a violation of any of the BYOB Ordinance regulations may result in civil and criminal penalties. The permit renewal date will be November 1st of every year.
