HHPD Community Services

The Community Services Division of the Harker Heights Police Department is geared toward facilitating the community-oriented or problem-solving efforts of the Department by providing various crime prevention services and educational programs to the citizens of the community.

We strive to promote awareness, teamwork, understanding and trust between the Police Department and the citizens we serve. We truly believe that through this “Partnership in the Community” - we can create a better quality of life for our citizens while utilizing our resources more effectively to better serve our community.

The Community Services Division works to achieve these goals through various channels, some of which include:

• Engaging in Community Outreach by working cohesively with our local residents, schools, businesses, civic organizations and Community Leaders

• Interacting with all Divisions within the Police Department as well as other City Departments to address community concerns

• Coordinating and Implementing crime prevention programs and meetings – to include Neighborhood Watch meetings

• Conducting surveys within our community to create an open line of communication with our citizens regarding any questions, comments, concerns, requests and suggestions for the Police Department

• Providing public presentations throughout our community on Police and Community Safety Programs (Crime Prevention and Personal Safety, Social Media Safety, Stranger Danger, Bicycle Safety, Home Safety, Business Safety, etc.)

• Organizing and participating in Special Events throughout the community (National Night Out, Frost Fest, Halloween Hoopla, and many other events sponsored by the City of Harker Heights or any of our local businesses)

• Bicycle Patrol – Patrolling the city via bicycle which allows Officers to be more visible and accessible to our citizens as well as being able to assist the Traffic and Patrol Divisions through the ability to navigate swiftly through areas with limited vehicle access.

• Organizing and conducting a Citizen Police Academy (CPA) – promoting education and understanding between the Police Department and our citizens by giving citizens first-hand experience with the important tasks encompassed by all facets of the Police Department.

• Organizing and administering a Citizen Volunteer Program (CVP) – in which graduates from the Citizens Police Academy graciously volunteer their time and effort to assist the Police Department with various duties both at the Police Department as well as within our community.

• Providing KIDDO Cards to citizens - KIDDO Cards are cards containing a child’s basic identifying information and photo in case of an Emergency. The KIDDO Cards are offered FREE OF CHARGE thanks to the generous support of our local businesses.

Though the items mentioned above represent just some of the avenues available and currently utilized by the Community Services Division – we are always looking for ways to improve and provide more efficient service to those we serve. With this in mind, we welcome and encourage any feedback from our citizens to help us improve our service and provide our community with the most useful programs and education.
