History of the Harker Heights Police Department

On September 24, 1960, Harker Heights was established as a General Law City.

The Head Law Enforcement official during this time was the Town Marshall.

Three Town Marshalls served in that capacity:

February 1961 to March 1961

M. L. KINARD

April 1961 to February 1963

DONALD VODDEN

April 1963 to June 1963

In October of 1963, Harker Heights became incorporated as a Home Rule City.

The first “City Marshall” was

DARL W. GODWIN

 who served from 1963 to1964.

In 1964, the City Council established a Police Department and named the Head Law Enforcement Official to be the Chief of Police.

Since the establishment of the Police Department, the following Officers have served as the Chief of Police for the City of Harker Heights:
